Last year I talked about what ink brands had done that year and what I hoped for this year. In this article I’m doing the same thing again. How many of my hopes were realised? What did the brand do? What do I want from them in 2019 and has that changed from what I wanted for this year? Last year this write up was over 3,500 words and this time it is over 6,100 words… Sorry!

A year and a half ago I wrote about my then collection of 637 Bottles and 33.47 Litres of Ink and now, after cracking 1,000 thanks to my recent purchase of all 100 Sailor Ink Studio inks (from Pen Classics) I thought was a good time to give an update to the collection.

Sacs, paper, and my favourite things!
Why is Japan Still So Attached to Paper? ✑ Fascinating article on Japan’s (and presumably all readers) love of paper and analogue!
An Experiment With New Inks and Latex Sacs ✑ It’s great to have this experiment recorded rather than just anecdotal. It reinforces my suspicions that many destroyed sacs are a combination of a certain production run of sacs and a particular ink (or potentially even a particular batch of inks if Noodler’s) being a bad combination and not just a particular ink killing sacs.
Highlights of Chinese Fountain Pens in 2018: n9 ✑ always a great read especially since a lot of Chinese Fountain Pens don’t get much coverage or awareness.
These are a few of my favourite things!
Decided to do this sponsored section a little differently by doing a holiday season list of things I love from each of the stores!
Pen Classics ✒︎ Sailor Ink Studio 100 inks are available! These are 100 unique inks based on the ink mixing studio Sailor put on in Japan. Lots of great colours to choose from. I’m a huge fan of Opus 88 pens, and a great place to grab Krishna’s increasingly sheeny inks and Stationery TAG’s Kyo-no-oto and Kyo-iro!
Desk Bandit ✒︎ The only place I know that stocks Carpink! Full range of the beautiful Nagasawa Kobe inks as well as Nagasawa’s Sailor Pro Gears! Full Range of Colorverse. So many great things! My favourite Kobe inks are #38, #41, #19, and #69! Desk Bandit are also selling Sailor’s Ink Studio!
La Couronne do Comte (10% off with MACCHIATOMAN10) ✒︎ My go to store for Montblanc releases and I often buy my KWZ from LCdC! I love Baltic Memories, IG Turquoise, IG Green #3, and Honey!
Pen Chalet (10% off with MACCHIATOMAN) ✒︎ Great range of eclectic brands! From 3•Osters to Taccia inks and from Taccia to Wancher fountain pens! I’m very eager to try Taccia.
Pen Savings (12% off with MACCHIATOMAN) ✒︎ My go to place for US inks such as Organics Studio, Noodler’s, Monteverde, and Private Reserve. My favourites are Noodler’s Black Swan in Australian Roses, Golden Brown, Navy and Turquoise as well as Private Reserve Avocado!
Ink Review: Bungubox Nostalgia
Sailor Bungubox Nostalgia doesn’t get that much love around the the ink review world and as far as I can see it has fallen a bit by the wayside. It’s a nice brown but I mainly bought the ink 2 years ago because of the evocative name and label. The sepia colour is also a very nice fit for the feeling.
