Ink Review: Sailor Onago Iro #02 Komorebi

September 19, 2020 in Ink Review

Sailor Onago Iro #02 Komorebi is a Sailor made ink that is branded under Sailor (rather than a third party stationery store) and is sold from the Sailor Japan website. They don’t ship it internationally. I am told that Onago Iro translates into English as β€œgirl colours” and Komorebi is the sunlight filtering through trees (Google Translate says β€œsunbeams”). The Onago Iro line of inks is a set of 10 inks of which this is listed in the second position. I acquired this ink via a friend.

Ink Review: KWZ Sheen Machine 2

August 31, 2020 in Ink Review

KWZ Sheen Machine 2 Sheen Day is the second instalment in KWZ’s approach to super sheening inks. KWZ Sheen Machine (1) was the classic super sheening azure ink but with better writing characteristics and cleaner. KWZ Sheen Machine 2 shares those characteristics but is in now a rich teal ink

Thank you to Bookbinders Design for sending this ink out for review. Bookbinders were only recently able to stock this and some other KWZ inks that were otherwise unavailable in the Australian market.

Ink Review: KWZ Sheen Machine (1)

August 25, 2020 in Ink Review

Released in the latter half of 2019, KWZ Sheen Machine was KWZ’s first contribution to super sheening inks, as the name would suggest. KWZ also released a sequel, Sheen Machine 2 β€œSheen Day” earlier 2020.

Thank you to Bookbinders Design for sending this ink out for review. Bookbinders were only recently able to stock this and some other KWZ inks that were otherwise unavailable in the Australian market.

Paper Comparison: NEW 52gsm Tomoe River vs old

August 20, 2020 in Paper Review, Paper Comparison

I believe it was this blog post that started widespread panic in the fountain pen community world wide! Tomoe River paper has become a staple amongst the community for its unique characteristics and notable friendliness to fountain pen ink. From its distinctive crinkly crackle, to its proclivity to long dry times; from its high sheen capabilities, to its glossy look Tomoe River has been used in countless loved fountain pen stationery products. To hear that it will be changing is quite troublesome! Hopefully this comparison between new and old 52gsm Ivory (off white) and Cream Tomoe River Paper will be helpful. There are also some alternatives presented.

A huge thank you to Desk Bandit for getting me samples of these papers as soon as they have!
