This black comparison has been in the works for a while and with resent additions to my Noodler's collection I thought it was ready to go. Blacks aren't terribly exciting inks but they are practical inks and people usually approach them for a specific reason and usually there are things that people are looking to not be present. In this comparison I've got 32 black inks. I originally intended to make this a comparison of Noodler's Blacks, then I decided to add some notable comparisons and finally I just put all my blacks together so it should be fairly comprehensive.

This ink as some very unique sheen. It doesn't have a lot but what it does have reacts very differently depending on the paper. Robert Oster teased this ink in August and announced the name in September. "Velvet Storm" is a great evocative name for an ink and suites this dark blue-green ink. On Sunday was the Melbourne Pen Show. Itβs a small show but it has a 20 year history and this year there was quite a few interstate visitors (and even at least one international). The Melbourne Pen Show isnβt the DC Pen Show; it isnβt the London Pen Show; itβs a small regional pen show. But because itβs small and regional itβs very people focused and I expect offers a different experience to that of the bigger show.

Blackstone Ink from Just Write in Australia recently released a set of Scents of Australia inks. These inks compliment the older Colours Of Australia lineup. Two of the inks from each set are blue (or are at least called blue) and I wanted to see how they compared to each other. Barrier Reef Blue is one of my favourite sheening inks and Sydney Harbour does pretty well for it self as well.
